Did You Know That Early Childhood Education in Jamaica is Not Free?

The government of Jamaica initiated its support of the development of early childhood education in 1942. Although the government provides partial subsidies to develop or upkeep these educational institutions, financing is the primary responsibility of the school, sponsoring board and the parents whose children attend. Basic, infant and or pre-schools, as they are commonly referred to, are privately operated or community based early childhood facilities, that educate and care for children ages two through six.

Basic Schools, which are community based schools, receive partial subsidies for teacher salaries; however, the money generated from the payment of tuition is used to maintain operations and utility costs. The lunch program is a separate required cost for these families, some with already limited financial resources. Therefore, shortages in tuition payment negatively impact the schools ability to sustain itself.

Help the students of JAMPACT by sponsoring their education. For only 40 USD a term or 120 USD a year, you can sponsor-a-child's tuition at one of our adopted basic schools, located in inner city Kingston.

Email education@jampact.org for more information.

Do You Remember Your First Early
Childhood Education Experience?

In the United States, during the month of February, we honor African American men and women who have contributed to the development of this country and the world through their talents and or innovations.

JAMPACT wants to pay tribute to the pioneers of early childhood education in Jamaica; beginning with the community members who took on the grassroots efforts of  establishing basic schools within churches or their homes in response to 1) the then government's ideology that early education was the responsibility of the parent and if not the parent, the community and 2) the  increase in the employment of women in factories resulting in the need for out-of- home care. We will also honor the institutions we have all attended and lastly, feature those documented in Jamaica's historical texts, as pioneers of early
childhood education.

We would like for you to share  your first early education experience with us in commemoration of these leaders
 and educational intitutions.

Email your personal experience to communications@jampact.org

Greetings From Our Educators

"Istanbul is a safe, cosmopolitan city... And it has been a very warm and welcoming city for me. And it turns out that a lot of my former students are Turkish...Many of
whom live in Istanbul. One of the great things about being here is that I have gotten a chance to renew my

connections with them or to establish connections

with their families."

Make The Pledge

Maxfield Park Basic School is an educational institution whose student population consists primarily of orphans. We want to provide these children with an improved learning environment to ensure their success. Take advantage of this opportunity to pledge your support.
