A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT...

Most of us share the good fortune of not having our very existence threatened by the onslaught of cold weather (although it sometimes felt like it this year). However, one can scarcely help but feel a certain triumph at the thought of having put another snow packed, ice sheeted, bone chilling wind whipped winter into the annals of history. Onward to the spring time joys of leaving the coat where it belongs, eating outside, and not being terrorized by the weather.

OUR SCHOOLS ON THE GROUND IN JA

On June 25th, a group of JAMPACT members will be traveling to Jamaica - on our Annual Membership Service Trip to visit our schools and perform service projects. Some of the activities being planned are a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new playground JAMPACT installed at St. Steven's Basic School, a site visit to each school for the performance of needed repairs, planting of a vegetable garden at two of our schools, classroom reading to and with the children, a reception - to include teacher recognition and the presentation of awards to scholarship recipients, amongst other things. This trip is open to all JAMPACT members. For further details and current updates, please contact

JAMPACT'S MEMBERS

Note from Membership

Since September 2010, the start of JAMPACT's new year, the Membership Committee, Andrew Edwards and I, have enjoyed the numerous opportunities to meet with our fellow supporters. For us, a new project is a perfect excuse to meet with someone who is eager to share his or her talents to further JAMPACT's cause. We enjoy the excuse to head to Sunday brunch or after work coffee, to exchange new ideas, talk about old business and address innovative ways of raising awareness.

Next Installation of Speaker Series 5/25:

Sean John; and no, not Diddy!

Jamaican-born entrepreneur Sean John is the owner of Spur Tree Lounge, located in Lower East Side Manhattan.

Speaker Series Recap: Alexx Anteus

Alexx Anteus is an award winning composer popularly known for recording, remixing and producing for a diverse selection of pop, reggae, hip hop, dance and R&B artists. Few people know that this voting member of the National Academy of Recording Arts  and Sciences, the governing party for the Grammy Awards, is also a RADA registered farmer in Jamaica, W.I.  At Think Tank's wine and cheese event, Anteus candidly discussed the advantages and challenges of establishing Island Chix Ltd., his chicken farm in Clarendon, Jamaica.  Anteus's  Greek background coupled with his passion for Jamaica and its development, made for a very dynamic presentation.

JAMPACT SPOTLIGHT

Humanitarian, Visionary, Progressive...

These are all words that I would use to describe "Third World Band." JAMPACT had the privilege of presenting them with an award for their global humanitarian efforts at Highline Ballroom on Tuesday, April 5, 2011.  From the start of the evening, one could not help but to feel the excitement in the air. One of the many perks of living in New York City is having the opportunity to hear amazing live music. However, few bands have had such longevity while promoting positive and uplifting music such as Third World Band.
